Almaden Browser Extension (Collective IQ)

Estimated reading: 3 minutes

Overview

The Almaden Collective IQ Browser Extension is an enterprise component designed exclusively for authorized corporate environments. Its purpose is to collect web usage telemetry that supports Digital Employee Experience (DEX) initiatives and assists organizations in identifying and managing Shadow IT usage across their environments.

The extension is intended solely for business use and operates as part of the Almaden ITAM and DEX ecosystem.

Data Collected by the Extension

When installed and active on a supported Chromium-based browser, the extension collects the following information:

Website Information

  • Domain names of visited websites.
  • Full URLs are never stored.
  • URL query strings, parameters, and fragments are removed before collection.

Browser Tab Information

  • Titles of active browser tabs.

Performance Metrics

  • Page load times (measured in milliseconds).
  • JavaScript memory consumption (heap size in MB), sampled every 60 seconds.
  • Network request error counts per browser session.
  • Network traffic volume (bytes transferred), based on Content-Length response headers.

Data Exclusions

The extension does not collect, store, transmit, or access:

  • Passwords.
  • Authentication tokens.
  • Form field contents.
  • Cookies.
  • Personal messages or communications.
  • Sensitive user-entered information.

Data Transmission and Storage

All information collected by the extension is transmitted exclusively to the authenticated Almaden Device Agent installed on the user’s corporate workstation.

Communication is performed locally using the Chrome Native Messaging API through secure inter-process communication (IPC) mechanisms based on standard input and output streams (stdin/stdout).

The extension does not transmit information directly to:

  • External internet services.
  • Third-party platforms.
  • Public cloud services outside the organization’s managed infrastructure.

Collected information is temporarily stored in the browser’s local storage (chrome.storage.local) and synchronized with the local device agent at predefined intervals.

To minimize local data retention, the extension maintains a temporary buffer limited to a maximum of 1,000 events.

Purpose of Data Collection

Data collected by the extension is used exclusively for the following business purposes:

Shadow IT Detection

Identification and monitoring of unauthorized or unapproved SaaS applications and web services being used within the corporate environment.

Digital Experience Management (DEX)

Measurement and analysis of employee web application performance, enabling organizations to identify performance issues and improve the overall digital workplace experience.

Data Sharing

Information collected by the extension is not sold, rented, disclosed, or shared with third parties.

All collected data remains within the organization’s authorized infrastructure and is handled in accordance with the data protection and privacy practices described elsewhere in this Privacy Policy.

Applicability

This section applies exclusively to users who have the Almaden Collective IQ Browser Extension deployed as part of an authorized corporate implementation.

The extension is not intended for personal, consumer, or non-corporate use.
