Architecture – Distribuition Wizard (ADW)

Introduction

The Almaden Distribution Assistant (ADW) is a plugin of the Server Agent (ASA).
It is a tool that facilitates the remote deployment of software, files, and commands to machines in a local network. It can be used to distribute resources to a single machine or multiple machines, with centralized control via the Almaden Portal. To use it, it is necessary to ensure the proper ports are open, have a user with the required permissions, and install the ADA Agent on the target machines. The ADW is essential for automating installations and remotely managing systems.

It is compatible only with Microsoft Windows operating systems for executing commands, copying files, and running executables (.exe) and batch scripts (.bat).

How It Works:

1. Installation and Setup:
   • The Almaden Distribution Assistant (ADW) sends commands to the target machines via LAN through the “Automatos SRC Server,” which is provided when selecting the “Software Distribution” option in “Agent Download.”
   • The system administrator ensures that the necessary ports are open for communication (Default port 5900) between the remote distribution server and the target machines.
   • It is necessary to create a security or global domain group called “Auto ADW SRC” and assign the user accounts that will be able to perform remote distributions.
   • Note: No additional permissions need to be assigned to the group or the user.
2. Centralized Control:
   • The ADW is controlled through the Almaden Portal, which allows the user to manage and monitor the distribution of software, files, and commands.
3. Remote Distribution:
   • Commands are sent remotely to the target machines. These can be specific tasks like executing an executable (.exe) or running a batch script (.bat).
   • The ADW allows copying files from the central server to the target machines.
   • Note: Since it’s not compatible with MSI (.msi) files, the ADW only supports .exe and .bat file types for execution.
4. Automation:
   • The ADW helps automate the process of software installation, file distribution, and remote system management without requiring manual intervention on each machine.
